The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department will receive a $50,000 donation from The Allstate Foundation in honor of the firefighters’ hard work in battling the wildfires. This special event will be held in lieu of Allstate Insurance Company’s normal "Good Hands®" field goal promotion during halftime of Saturday’s NCAA football game, between San Diego State University and the University of Wyoming, at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego.
David Steppe of the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department will have the honor of kicking the ball during half-time. Fire Chief Tracy Jarman will be on hand to support the department’s designated kicker, and to accept the donation from The Allstate Foundation.
"The Allstate Foundation is honored to support the brave men and women who worked tirelessly to battle the fires in San Diego County," said Robert H. Barge III, field vice president for Allstate Insurance in California. "This donation is just one part of our commitment to helping residents in the affected communities."
Allstate and The Allstate Foundation are committed to partnering with organizations working to promote wildfire prevention and preparedness, and the Foundation has provided over a million dollars in grants to organizations focused on these activities. The California Fire Safe Council and local Fire Safe Councils received support from the Foundation to conduct a survey among California homeowners regarding their wildfire risk and provide important information about defensible space. The Allstate Foundation has also partnered with The Forest Foundation and Los Angeles Fire Department to provide communities with important wildfire preparedness information.
The 2007 "Good Hands®" field goal net program, now in its third year, includes 60 schools at both the Division I-A and I-AA levels. The nets, constructed in one end zone per stadium at each of the participating schools illustrating the insurance company’s "Good hands®" logo, will be raised only during field goal and extra point attempts. The "Good Hands®" logo plays off the company’s popular slogan, "You’re in good hands with Allstate.®" Allstate is also using its branded field goal nets in conjunction with television, print and online advertising.
Since the program’s inception, Allstate’s overall donations are in excess of $1.16 million to the 54 and 51 schools who participated in the program in 2006 and 2005, respectively, as well as Hurricane Katrina relief funds in 2005.
